Disney's turning to feature film newbie Brenton Thwaites to play the prince in Maleficent. According to Deadline, the Australian actor will be starring opposite Angelina Jolie in the fairy tale project scheduled to start production next month.
Award winning veteran visual effects designer Robert Stromberg is making his directorial debut with the project which also is set to star Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora. Additional cast members include Imelda Staunton, Sam Riley, Juno Temple, and Sharlto Copley.
Disney says the drama will explore the "origins of the evil fairy Maleficent and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in Disney's animated classic Sleeping Beauty."
Disney's set a March 14, 2014 release date.
