Owen Wilson is returning to the action genre with a starring role in The Coup, written and directed by John Erick Dowdle (Devil, Quarantine) and Drew Dowdle. Crime Scene Pictures just announced Wilson's involvement in the project which is scheduled to start shooting in October in Southeast Asia.
The official synopsis: "The Coup is an intense thriller centered on an American family that moves to Southeast Asia and finds themselves embroiled in a violent coup where rebels mercilessly attack the city."
Commenting on Wilson's involvement in the Dowdle Brothers' film, Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris stated: "We love the relentless energy of the Dowdle Brothers' script - and their vision for dropping Owen in the midst of the chaos is truly inspired."
Wilson has a bunch of projects he's currently attached to, including Zoolander 2 (we're not holding our breath that'll ever actually go into production), Matthew Weiner's You Are Here, and the comedy movie, Freezing People is Easy.
