Y-E-S, the Ouija movie is still in the works. And N-O, McG is probably no longer involved as director. Deadline says Universal has resurrected the project, but it won't be the $100 supernatural adventure film originally envisioned by a handful of screenwriters.
Universal said no to the big budget idea, but yes to a much more modestly budgeted version that will cost closer to $5 million, per Deadline's sources. Hasbro and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes are still on board as producers, and Jason Blum's Blumhouse production company has also now signed on to the project. Blum's the producer behind the small-budget/large profit franchise, Paranormal Activity, as well as one of 2010's most profitable films, the James Wan/Leigh Whannell horror movie Insidious. With Blum now having input into the project, that rumored $5 million budget is actually doable.
Universal Pictures is now eyeing a 2013 release date.
