Why has George Clooney decided not to reunite with his Ocean's director Steven Soderbergh for the feature film version of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.? Clooney hasn't revealed the reason behind leaving U.N.C.L.E., a project that would likely be the last opportunity for the Oscar-winning actor to team up with Soderbergh for the seventh time, given the fact Soderbergh keeps claiming his leaving filmmaking behind to take up painting. Soderbergh recently revealed to the New York Times [About.com's parent company] that he's ready to make the change in careers. "I'm interested in exploring another art form while I have the time and ability to do so," stated Soderbergh. "I'll be the first person to say if I can't be any good at it and run out of money I'll be back making another Ocean's movie."
Whatever the reasoning behind his decision, it appears the loss of Clooney as the star isn't stopping Warner Bros from moving ahead on the film. The project is based on the '60s TV series starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum as agents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin. The series ran from 1964-1968 and won a Golden Globe in 1966 for Best TV Show.
Next up for Clooney is the political drama The Ides of March (opening October 7) which he wrote, directed and co-stars. Following that, he'll be seen in The Descendants written and directed by Alexander Payne (Sideways)and heading to theaters on November 23rd. Soderbergh's got Contagion and Haywire releasing this year and is in pre-production on the male stripper film Magic Mike based on Channing Tatum's stripping experiences.
