Movie Review: One Day Drags On Forever

By August 19, 2011

Follow me on:

Jim Sturgess and Anne Hathaway in One DayBecause I'm a fan of the novel One Day, I was really looking forward to the film adaptation. Plus, it was adapted by the book's author, David Nicholls, so hopes were high that he'd be faithful to his own story. Those hopes were dashed not far into One Day, the film version. Now after sitting through the film adaptation - an experience I can only describe as soul-sucking - I stand in support of people who dread their favorite books transitioning to the big screen.

There are few things more disappointing than a poor adaptation of a good book. I can count on one hand the number of adaptations of books that I liked that were well-done: “Mystic River” and “Gone Baby Gone” (both by Dennis Lehane), “Lincoln Lawyer” (Michael Connelly) are good ones that come to mind.

I see so many British and Australian actors who master American accents but can’t think of one American who does a good British accent.
