Warner Bros just released the first photo of Henry Cavill (The Tudors, Immortals) in costume as Superman in Man of Steel. Directed by Zack Snyder, the reboot of the Superman franchise finds Cavill playing Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne (who was just announced as part of the cast this week) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner team up to play Clark Kent's adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Michael Shannon (the best thing about Revolutionary Road) is playing the film's main villain, General Zod, and Faora, Zod's evil partner, is played by Antje Traue. Also from Superman's native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman's mother, played by Julia Ormond and Superman's father, Jor-El, portrayed by Russell Crowe. Harry Lennix is U.S. military man General Swanwick and Christopher Meloni is Colonel Hardy.
The official synopsis hasn't been released but Warner Bros did confirm they're still targeting a June 14, 2013 release.
So, what do you think of Cavill as Superman? He certainly looks the part and if you watched The Tudors, then you know he's got the acting chops to deliver a great performance. Now it's all up to the David S Goyer's script and Zack Snyder's direction...
