Lionsgate has acquired US and U.K. distribution rights to the comedy The Big Wedding starring Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl, Amanda Seyfried, Robin Williams, Ben Barnes and Topher Grace. Filming is currently underway in Greenwich, Connecticut with writer/director Justin Zackman (writer of The Bucket List) at the helm.
According to Lionsgate, The Big Wedding "centers around Don (De Niro) and Ellie (Keaton), a long divorced couple being forced to pretend that they are still happily married at their son's wedding. Among all of their family and friends, the hoax snowballs into a poignant and raucously funny story about the ties that bind."
Announcing the acquisition, President of Lionsgate's Motion Picture Group Joe Drake called The Big Wedding "a charming, rollicking movie that promises to be an instant intergenerational family comedy classic."
Writer/director Zackman's other film credits include The Fastest Man in the World and Going Greek. He also created the short-lived TV series Lights Out which ran on FX earlier this year.
