A few updates to close out the busy week: Lucasfilm Ltd announced they've set a January 20, 2012 release date for the action epic Red Tails directed by Anthony Hemingway and starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston, Nate Parker, David Oyelowo, Tristan Wilds, Cliff Smith, Kevin Phillips, Rick Otto, Lee Tergesen, Andre Roy, Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelley, Marcus T. Paulk, Leslie Odom Jr., Michael B. Jordan, and Daniela Ruah. Red Tails is set during World War II and tells the story of the "heroic exploits of the first all African-American aerial combat unit."
"I am humbled and honored to direct the story of the Tuskegee Airmen - heroes who have paved the way so others could have the opportunity to pursue their dreams," stated Hemingway in Lucasfilm's press release. "To be selected by George Lucas and Rick to direct this film was more than my wildest dreams come true. It's been a blessing to work with them, along with the amazingly talented artists at Industrial Light & Magic. I've grown a lot on many levels from this experience. As director, I had the fortune to work with a highly skilled crew from the Czech Republic, U.K. and the U.S., along with a remarkably talented group of actors. The resonant beauty, strength and dedication of our heroes is reflected in the powerful ensemble cast."
Executive producer George Lucas added, "I've wanted to do this film for a great many years, so it is especially gratifying to see it all come together. It has been a real pleasure to work with Anthony and the extraordinary cast on a project that we all passionately believe in. The Tuskegee Airmen were such superb pilots that it was essential for us to create visual effects that would live up to their heroism and put audiences in the cockpit with them. They were only in their early 20s when they performed these amazing feats. They became the best of the best--the top guns. It is an honor to bring to the screen a story inspired by their heroics."

And The Indomina Group announced they've just acquired the North American distribution rights to the comedy A Fantastic Fear of Everything starring Simon Pegg (Paul, Shaun of the Dead) and marking the feature film debut of writer/director Crispian Mills. Filming's currently underway in London
A Fantastic Fear of Everything synopsis: "In the film, Jack (Pegg) is a children's author turned crime novelist whose detailed research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck, persecuted by the irrational fear of being murdered. When Jack is thrown a life-line by his long-suffering agent and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in his script, what should be his 'big break' rapidly turns into his 'big breakdown', as Jack is forced to confront his worst demons; among them his love life, his laundry and the origin of all fear."
