Rhys IfansRhys Ifans, the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man, was in San Diego this weekend to promote that Sony Pictures release and apparently took his job of playing bad guy a bit too far. Ifans, who was at the 2011 Comic Con to officially reveal he's playing Dr Curt Connors/Lizard (a scientist with reptilian features) shoved past a female security guard after she attempted to deny him access to the backstage area. According to The Wrap, Ifans smelled of alcohol and became belligerent after the security officer wouldn't allow him in to the backstage area in order to participate in The Amazing Spider-Man panel.

The Wrap quotes the security officer involved, Lt. Andra Brown, as saying, "He was abusive, belligerent, and aggressive, and shoved a female security guard aside to shove his way through. After the panel, he was cited and released. He was verbally abusive to all around...security, the PD and the USA. After receiving his citation he left the venue."

Sony issued a statement regarding the incident:

"Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the Amazing Spider-Man panel," said Steve Elzer, Senior Vice President of Media Relations. "Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets the incident."
