Marvel and Disney are gearing up for Thor 2 with Chris Hemsworth on board to return in the title role. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Kenneth Branagh will not be back as director (their sources say it was a "mutual parting of ways"). Disney's aiming for a July 26, 2013 release date for the sequel. There's no word yet on who, if any, of the supporting players will be back for more adventures with the hammer-wielding hero.
Thor was released domestically on May 6th and earned $65 million over its opening weekend. To date it's grossed $435 million worldwide.
In other release date news, DreamWorks has moved The Help's opening date up two days from August 12th to August 10th and Guillermo del Toro's action epic Pacific Rim now has a July 12, 2013 release date. Universal's set a Memorial Day 2013 release for the sixth film of the Fast and Furious franchise while R.I.P.D. starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges will be entering theaters on June 28, 2013. Meanwhile Sony's recent pick up, Singularity from Roland Emmerich, will launch on May 17, 2013.
