Oscar host/college student/actor/director/writer/producer James Franco (soon to be seen in Rise of the Planet of the Apes) will be playing a cocaine-addicted lawyer in Cherry, set to start shooting in June. Enderby Entertainment announced filming will take place in San Francisco, with author Stephen Elliot (Adderall Diaries) making his directorial debut with this indie drama.
CEO of Enderby Entertainment Rick Dugdale stated, "It is a great story from the mind of a wonderful author in Mr. Elliot, and we are thrilled to get behind him on his adventure."
According to the press release announcing the upcoming start of production, Cherry is the story of a "troubled 18-year-old who moves to San Francisco where she enters the porn industry and becomes involved with a cocaine-addicted lawyer, to be played by Franco." The cast also includes Heather Graham as a porn star who moves behind the camera to direct. Her character becomes obsessed with Cherry (a role that hasn't yet been cast). Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel will play Cherry's best friend who's also in love with her, and Lili Taylor's been cast as Cherry's alcoholic mother.
