Joel Edgerton Joins The Great Gatsby

Luke Evans (Immortals, The Three Musketeers) and Joel Edgerton (Warrior) were said to be the finalists in the search for Baz Luhrmann's 'Tom Buchanan' in the upcoming 3D - yes, 3D - version of The Great Gatsby, and now The Hollywood Reporter says Edgerton has won the role. Luhrmann's directing and co-wrote the script with Craig Pearce, who worked with him on Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, and Moulin Rouge!.

Edgerton joins Leonardo DiCaprio who'll be playing Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, and Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson, and Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker.

For those of you not up on your Great Gatsby, here's the book's synopsis: "The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when, The New York Times remarked, "gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession," it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s that resonates with the power of myth. Production is going to begin in August.

Joel Edgerton will next be seen in the mixed martial arts film Warrior with Tom Hardy and Universal Pictures' remake of The Thing. He recently completed work on the fantasy film The Odd Life of Timothy Green and Say Nothing with Teresa Palmer.
