FilmDistrict's been busy snatching up film properties, with their latest acquisition being the romantic comedy Playing the Field. The soccer comedy stars Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Judy Greer, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman and Dennis Quaid, and is directed by Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness).
Gerard Butler stars as a world famous retired soccer player who decides to leave his wild days as a player both on and off the field in the past. He moves back to the Virginia town where his ex-wife (Biel) and son (Noah Lomax) live in order to try and rebuild his relationship with his estranged family. However, when he starts to coach his son's soccer team, he finds concentrating on reconnecting is a tough task with all the sexy soccer moms hanging out in the stands.
Says FilmDistrict CEO Peter Schlessel, "Playing the Field is a fun PG-13 romantic comedy that in the very capable hands of Gabriele Muccino is sure to be a hit. The great comedic cast will definitely have fun with Robbie Fox's terrific script."
FilmDistrict plans on releasing Playing the Field in the spring of 2012. Filming is currently underway in Louisiana.
Butler is also producing the film through his Evil Twin Prods banner.
