After scoring an Oscar nomination for his work in the riveting drama The Hurt Locker, Jeremy Renner's become one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood. Following The Hurt Locker, Renner filmed a tiny bit for Thor and will be revisiting the role of Hawkeye in The Avengers, which starts shooting very soon. He also nabbed a major role in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol opposite Tom Cruise, and word has it he's being groomed to take over that franchise when Cruise opts to step down. He's currently busy on Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters with Gemma Arterton as Gretel (the story's set 15 years after that whole gingerbread house incident). And now Renner's added one more high-profile project to his to do list: to star in the fourth Bourne film, Bourne Legacy.
This next Bourne film won't have Matt Damon or director Paul Greengrass, and it doesn't actually focus on Jason Bourne. Instead, Renner - if he accepts Universal's offer, and if there's even time in his schedule to squeeze it in - will be playing a completely new character.
Bourne Legacy will be co-written and directed by Tony Gilroy, screenwriter of the first three Bourne films. Universal's targeting an August 2012 release.
