Josh HutchersonDirector Gary Ross, could you please just announce The Hunger Games cast already so we can all stop with the guessing? The latest Hunger Games casting tidbit comes via EW who reports Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right) is chomping at the bit to play Peeta in The Hunger Games trilogy. Peeta is one of the two male leads, a romantic figure who can handle himself physically but has a softer side. Hutcherson's the right age, has built up a respectable resume over the past decade, and with a little help from the hair and make-up departments could look the part.

With filming expected to begin in a couple of months, director Ross needs to get his three leads - Peeta, Katniss, and Peeta's rival for Katniss' affection, Gale - locked in relatively soon so that they can begin training for the physically demanding roles (more so for the actors cast as Katniss and Peeta than for whoever winds up landing the role of Gale). Actresses supposedly in the running for Katniss include Jennifer Lawrence, Abigail Breslin, and Hailee Steinfeld. Liam Hemsworth, Alex Pettyfer, and Hunter Parrish have all been mentioned as potential Peetas.

In an interview with EW at SXSW, Hutcherson admitted he'd love to be Peeta and that he's met with director Ross. "The character is so much who I am--self deprecating, a people person. And he'd be such a great character to play! Like in the third book? Oh my God.." said Hutcherson.

"But they're meeting a lot of people right now," Hutcherson added. "One can only dream."
