Brie Larson has just nabbed the female lead in the big screen adaptation of the '80s TV series, 21 Jump Street. Larson will be playing Molly - who wasn't a character on the original show - reports Deadline. In landing the lead, Larson joins Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube.
Larson's best known for her role in the Showtime series United States of Tara. Her film credits include Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Greenberg, Hoot, Sleepover and 13 Going on 30. Larson recently completed work on Rampart, a crime drama that reunites The Messenger team of actors Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson and writer/director Oren Moverman.
Set up at 20th Century Fox, 21 Jump Street will be directed by the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs filmmakers, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Jonah Hill, Joe Gazzam and Michael Bacall worked on the script, with filming expected to start in the next few months.In our exclusive interview with Channing Tatum in support of his recent film, The Eagle, Tatum said 21 Jump Street would be his next project - and the most intense action film of his career. Tatum also revealed that he and the rest of the 21 Jump Street gang are actively attempting to lure Johnny Depp into appearing in the film adaptation. Depp was part of the series from 1987-1990.
