Dancing with the Stars' Julianne Hough is in final negotiations to join the cast of the musical Rock of Ages, reports Variety. If her deal goes through, which is likely as director Adam Shankman really wants her, she'll be playing 'Sherrie Christian' in the big screen adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical.
Shankman confirmed Hough's offer in an interview with Variety. "I asked her if she wanted to be in a movie with Tom Cruise and she wanted to not get on the plane so she could celebrate. Her audition was surreal - maybe the best I've ever seen," revealed Shankman.
Filming's expected to begin in May, and although the casting rumors have been flying around fast and furiously for months (Russell Brand, Gwyneth Paltrow, Alec Baldwin, Seth Rogen...), the only confirmed cast members are Tom Cruise as 'Stacie Jaxx' and Mary J Blige as 'Justice.'
Set up at New Line Cinema, Rock of Ages takes place in Hollywood in 1987 and follows a small town girl who meets and falls for a young rocker with the help of classic '80s tunes by Styx, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison and Whitesnake .
After gaining popularity and name recognition from Dancing with the Stars, Hough's been keeping busy working on feature films. She was recently seen opposite Cher and Christina Aguilera in Burlesque and will be back on the big screen in October with the remake of Footloose.
