Filming Begins on 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves

Filming will begin on March 14th on 47 Ronin, according to Universal Pictures, with Keanu Reeves headlining the cast of this 3D fantasy adventure. Carl Erik Rinsch (The Gift) is directing from a script by Chris Morgan (Wanted) and Hossein Amini (Drive).

While announcing the upcoming start of production, Universal also revealed the film's principal cast. Hiroyuki Sanada is Oishi, the clan's chief samurai who is joined by Kai (Reeves) in a quest to revenge the murder of their master by an evil overlord. Kou Shibasaki will play Kai's love interest, Mika, the daughter of their master. Tadanobu Asano is the evil Lord Kira and Rinko Kikuchi is Mizuki, a mysterious woman who "executes Kira's every request in his search for ultimate power."

Scott Stuber, Pamela Abdy and Eric McLeod are producing. Universal's aiming for a November 2012.
