The King's Speech posterThe King's Speech was nominated for 12 Oscars and won four, including Best Picture, at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. In the days leading up to the Oscars, it seemed to be a two-horse Best Picture race between The King's Speech and The Social Network, with most pundits leaning toward The King's Speech. But, the Academy was trying to go for a younger audience this year - that's why Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosted the show - so The Social Network stood a chance of toppling King's. But it was not to be as the Academy crowned King's Speech the best film of 2010.

The producers, cast, and director appeared on stage to accept the Oscar, and one of the producers pointed out 2010 was an amazing year for films. The thank you speeches were very dry (turning the mic over to Colin Firth would have livened things up), but the group did seem genuinely moved by the honor.

After The King's Speech group left the stage, Franco and Hathaway wrapped up the event by introducing the kids from PS22 in Staten Island, NY, to sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." And thus ends one of the most boring Oscar ceremonies in history.
