Christian Bale earned his very first Screen Actors Guild Award for his supporting performance in the riveting The Fighter, based on a true story. Taking to the stage with better trimmed up hair than he's been showing off this awards season, Bale immediately joked, "Bloody hell, this is heavy." He then thanked his fellow actors before being joined by Dicky Eklund, the man he plays in The Fighter, with Bale looking genuinely pleased to see the ex-boxer who inspired his performance.Thanking his fellow actors, Bale said, "This is really meaningful, getting it from fellow actors. I truly appreciate that. These speeches often get boring because the problem is that when you win something you realize just how many other people you depended upon. So absolutely to my fellow actors - they were just stunning. To my director, producers, writers, Relativity, Paramount for pushing us and recognizing what they had here. I really appreciate that. Thank you so much."
"I love acting. I love what we do. It's so bloody silly at times, isn't it, you know? It's like playing dress up and other times it is so meaningful, and I just enjoy that so much. We get to walk in other people's shoes," said Bale. "Life without empathy is no fun at all. I appreciate being able to do that for my life."
Bale finished up by thanking his wife and daughter and telling them he loves them.
