Julia Roberts photoJulia Roberts and/or Charlize Theron could be getting ready to goof around with some dwarfs, according to a report from Deadline. Both Oscar-winning actresses are being courted to play the Evil Queens in rival Snow White projects.

Universal Pictures' Snow White and the Huntsman is hoping to land Theron while Relativity Media's looking to get Roberts to sign on to their The Brothers Grimm: Snow White (the working title). That Snow White film is described as dark and edgy and has director Tarsem Singh on board to helm the project.

In an exclusive interview, producer Ryan Kavanaugh explained why Singh was the right choice for his Snow White film: "His aesthetic ability is so insane that when we were deciding on Snow White we were like, 'Who can actually create Snow White as an image - which is one of the most iconic images that we grew up with - in a way that actually is better than what we all remember, which is so good?' And it was him."

Meanwhile Snow White and the Huntsman has feature film newcomer Rupert Sanders as director and a storyline that involves the Huntsman and Snow White chained together trying to escape the Evil Queen. And The Hollywood Reporter says Universal's decided to go with lessor known actresses. The short list of possible Snow White's reportedly includes Elvis Presley's granddaughter Riley Keough, Felicity Jones (The Tempest), Australian actress Bella Heathcoat, and Swedish actress Alicia Vikander. Universal's also hoping to add Michael Fassbender to the cast as the Huntsman.
