Jon Favreau is stepping away from the Iron Man franchise after two films. The actor/director made it official by tweeting the news: "It's true, I'm directing Magic Kingdom, not Iron Man 3. I've had a great run with Marvel and wish them the best."Favreau didn't get into the specifics behind his decision, however as recently as last month Favreau had been talking about being unsure of where Marvel wanted the Iron Man 3 story to go. "In theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers," Favreau said in an interview with MTV. "This whole world...I have no idea what it is. I don't think they do either, from conversations I've had with those guys."
Unlike Iron Man 1 and 2, Iron Man 3 is set up at Disney as part of the studio's deal with Marvel and Paramount Pictures. And apparently Marvel's already started a search for Favreau's replacement, according to Vulture, with an eye on Iron Man 3 entering theaters in May 2013.
Favreau recently completed filming Cowboys and Aliens for Universal Pictures.
