We haven't seen Kirsten Dunst on the big screen since 2008's How to Lose Friends and Alienate People but she's back opposite Ryan Gosling in the indie drama All Good Things - inspired by the real-life disappearance of the wife of a New York real estate millionaire - hitting theaters next Friday. And while doing the LA press roundtables in support of that Magnolia Pictures release, Dunst was asked about another project she used to be attached to until the studio decided to go a completely different direction. Spider-Man 4 (not the final title) won't feature Spider-Man 1-3 stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco and instead will reboot the franchise with a new Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) and new leading lady (Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy)."I felt like what we had during those films was so special, like me and Tobey and Sam," explained Dunst when asked how she feels about the decision to reboot the series. "It was such a unique experience, and also because it was these independent minds and actors and we were making this huge film, and it's great. All these kids are such huge fans, and to be part of a movie like that is very special, especially a good franchise. So to end on 3 I think is the perfect way to leave it."
But Sam Raimi's version of Spider-Man 4 almost happened before things fell apart. "Yeah, yeah, but also I feel like it was time. And sometimes they always want to push things for money reasons or whatever, and I think that it just didn't come together the way they probably had wanted or envisioned," offered Dunst. "I like Andrew Garfield so much as an actor, and Emma Stone, so I think they'll be great in the new version."
As for whether she'll check out the new Spider-Man cast in the upcoming 2012 release, Dunst answered without hesitation, "Of course I'm going to see the movie! Yeah, of course."
