If Steven Soderbergh is actually directing the film adaptation of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., then news that George Clooney is considering a star role makes complete sense. The Hollywood Reporter says Clooney has "talked and met" with Soderbergh about playing one of the two main characters.Soderbergh and Clooney have worked together in six films - the three Ocean's movies plus Out of Sight, Solaris, and The Good German - and with the Ocean's franchise likely all finished up, U.N.C.L.E. could mark the beginning of a new film series for the pair. However, as THR points out, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is in the very early planning stage.
Clooney was last seen in the dramatic thriller The American and has finished up work on Alexander Payne's The Descendants. He recently secured funding for The Ides of March (based on the play Farragut North) set to star Ryan Gosling.

Clooney is now too old to play Napoleon Solo. 10 or 15 years ago, he would have been a good choice, but not now. They need a younger, more dynamic actor for the role.
