George Clooney photo /George Clooney's received the financial backing to move forward on the film version of Beau Willimon's award-winning play, Farragut North, now known as The Ides of March. Exclusive Media Group and Cross Creek Pictures are behind Clooney's fourth movie in which he'll take to the director's chair.

Clooney and his producing/writing partner Grant Heslov adapted Willimon's play and have set Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood, and Paul Giamatti to star in the drama. Clooney will also step in front of the camera to play Governor Morris, a Democratic candidate in the presidential primary race. Gosling will star as his spokesperson, while Tomei takes on the role of a New York Times reporter and Woods is set to play a campaign intern. Giamatti will co-star as the campaign manager of a rival candidate.

Exclusive Media released this synopsis for The Ides of March: "The Ides of March is an intense tale of sex, ambition, loyalty, betrayal and revenge. The film follows a young press spokesman who falls prey to backroom politics, the treacherous manipulations of veteran operatives and the seduction of a young intern."

Filming is expected to begin in February in Ohio and Michigan.

Just had the pleasure of watching new movie “The Ides of March”. Very realistic plot, with a keen insight into the backroom politics of presidential campaigns. Amazed at the physical resemblance of George Clooney + Ryan Gosling…maybe Ryan is a clone? Ryans star is shineing bright! George has done a superb job at directing…I see plenty of awards for this movie!
