Clooney and his producing/writing partner Grant Heslov adapted Willimon's play and have set Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood, and Paul Giamatti to star in the drama. Clooney will also step in front of the camera to play Governor Morris, a Democratic candidate in the presidential primary race. Gosling will star as his spokesperson, while Tomei takes on the role of a New York Times reporter and Woods is set to play a campaign intern. Giamatti will co-star as the campaign manager of a rival candidate.
Exclusive Media released this synopsis for The Ides of March: "The Ides of March is an intense tale of sex, ambition, loyalty, betrayal and revenge. The film follows a young press spokesman who falls prey to backroom politics, the treacherous manipulations of veteran operatives and the seduction of a young intern."
Filming is expected to begin in February in Ohio and Michigan.
