The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (the Swedish version, not David Fincher's English-language version currently in the works) star Noomi Rapace has landed the female lead in Sherlock Holmes 2 reports The Hollywood Reporter. Rapace's performance in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has earned her rave reviews and early Oscar buzz.Sherlock Holmes 2 (the working title, not necessarily the final name) reunites Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. Watson with director Guy Ritchie. The film will be Rapace's first English-language role. There's no word yet on exactly who Rapace will be playing, however the plot will involve Holmes and Watson squaring off against their arch-nemesis Moriarty. THR says it's possible Rapace's character will be a French gypsy.
Filming is expected to begin later this year with Warner Bros eyeing a December 16, 2011 release date.
Downey Jr will next be seen in the Warner Bros comedy Due Date with Zach Galifianakis. He's also got Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity and The Avengers lined up, in addition to Sherlock Holmes 2. Jude Law's currently working on Hugo Cabret, Martin Scorsese's first 3-D film.
