Reese Witherspoon may be once again stepping into the shoes of a famous singer/songwriter. Witherspoon's producing a biopic of songstress Peggy Lee and, according to Variety, a deal's being worked out for her to star in the film. Nora Ephron (Julie & Julia) is working on the script and is attached to direct.Variety says Witherspoon, an Oscar-winner for her portrayal of June Carter in Walk the Line, made a deal with Lee's estate for the rights to make a feature film of Peggy's life. After obtaining the rights, she contacted Marc Platt to produce and Ephron to write and direct.
Peggy Lee was born on May 26, 1920 in North Dakota (real name: Norma Deloris Egstrom) and passed away on January 21, 2002. Lee turned to singing to escape an abusive childhood and had hit after hit in a career spanning 60 years, beginning with "Somebody Else Is Taking My Place" and "Why Don't You Do Right?".
Witherspoon recently finished work on the big screen adaptation of the bestselling Water for Elephants alongside Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz and has the romantic comedy How Do You Know with Paul Rudd hitting theaters later this year.
