Rihanna's ready to become the latest pop star to try her hand at acting. The Grammy Award-winning singer has been cast in Universal Pictures' Battleship, an sci-fi action drama based on the popular Hasbro board game. Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) star in Battleship, a project that sounds like it'll just barely be based on the game that inspired it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Hasbro's Battleship had anything to do with the Navy fighing off an invasion by aliens which is what the film's all about.
Peter Berg (Hancock) is directing from a screenplay by Jon and Erich Hoeber. Filming's expected to begin soon with Universal eyeing a May 25, 2012 release.
