Machine Gun Preacher with Gerard Butler Goes to Lionsgate

Lionsgate just announced they've picked up the North American distribution rights to Machine Gun Preacher starring Gerard Butler (Law Abiding Citizen) and directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace, The Kite Runner). Filming's set to begin next month in Detroit and South Africa, with Lionsgate aiming for a fall 2011 release.

Written by Jason Keller and based on a true story, the film stars Butler as Reverend Sam Childers - also known as 'the machine gun preacher' (hence the film's title). Butler's going to be joined by Michelle Monaghan as Sam's wife, Lynn, Michael Shannon as Sam's best friend, Donnie, Madeline Carroll as Sam's daughter, Kathy Baker as Sam's mom, and Souleymane Sy Savane as Sam's right-hand man in Africa.
