Columbia Pictures is in talks with writer/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor to direct the sequel to Ghost Rider, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If their deal goes through, Neveldine and Taylor may also take a crack at reworking David Goyer's story idea. THR also reports Nicolas Cage is in negotiations to return as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider. The first Ghost Rider film based on the Marvel Comics series landed in theaters in 2007, opening with $52 million and going on to earn $219 million worldwide before exiting theaters. The studio wants to get Ghost Rider #2 into production later this year, but there's no word yet on where the second film will take the flame-headed, motorcycle-riding superhero.
Neveldine and Taylor became a sought after team after their debut effort, Crank (2006), earned major buzz. They went on to crank out Crank: High Voltage and Gamer, and also wrote the script for Jonah Hex, a film they were also attached to direct at one point.
