Producer Joel Silver confirmed the remake of Logan's Run is in fact moving forward. Last week word came that a director had been named, and last night at the LA premiere of Splice (a film Silver picked up at Sundance) Silver said the director's deal is in the works and Logan's Run is getting closer to production."Looks like it. We're working a deal now with this young director, this very talented young director Carl Rinsche," said Silver. "He really is excited about it and so are we, so we'll see what happens."
Rinsche has yet to direct a feature film, but he's been generating a lot of buzz and has signed up for a few big films (47 Ronin, Creature from the Black Lagoon) in addition to Logan's Run. "That's right. This may be his first one," confirmed Silver. "He's got something else at Universal which is close, but we'll see what happens."
Asked when he expects Logan's Run to get underway, Silver replied, "I don't know. We've got to write a script; we have things to do so it's not immediate but it's going to be soon."
And in an exclusive interview with MTV, Silver said Logan's Run will be a 3-D production from the get-go. "I'd like to make Logan's Run [in 3-D]. It's a movie I've always been intrigued with, excited by. We're writing a script now and that should be a big 3-D movie and it should be devised and shot in 3-D. I think if we can pull it together, then it would be."
Silver also said he's still interested in a Lobo film based on the DC Comics. "I want to make that, too. That was kind of going along a really good path and it kind of got... Guy Ritchie was going to do that but then he had to go back and do the sequel to Sherlock Holmes which is really important, too, so we'll see what happens." And for Sherlock Holmes fans, Silver said Jude Law will definitely be reuniting with Robert Downey Jr for the sequel.
