Disney/Pixar just made official what had been suspected for a while now. The studio will in fact be moving forward on Monsters, Inc. 2 and they're aiming for a November 16, 2012 release, according to Variety. Disney Chairman Rich Ross broke the news today while showing off clips from the studio's remaining 2010 big films. Ross didn't reveal any details on the sequel to the 2001 box office hit other than that projected release date. Pete Docter (Up) directed the original film, however there's no official word on whether he'll be back for 2.Ross also took the opportunity to announce a new title for Pixar's animated fairy tale, The Bear and the Bow, featuring the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Billy Connolly, and Emma Thompson. The film will now simply be called Brave. It's kind of a bland title that doesn't make you want to rush and see the movie - or provide any clues whatsoever to the plot - and The Bear and the Bow was actually sort of catchy, which makes me wonder why the change was made.
In a press release from 2008, Pixar provided this synopsis for the newly retitled film: "A rugged and mythic Scotland is the setting for Pixar's action-adventure The Bear and the Bow. The impetuous, tangle-haired Merida, though a daughter of royalty, would prefer to make her mark as a great archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father's kingdom and her mother's life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right."
