It came as no surprise, given that Paranormal Activity was one of the most profitable films in history, that Paramount Pictures greenlit a sequel to the low-budget horror film shortly after the movie's expanded release in theaters. A director had even been named - Kevin Greutert (Saw VI) - however he had to leave the project to handle Saw VII (because the world really needs another Saw film).
