And Matt Damon might not be up for another Bourne movie either. Variety reports Damon's involvement in Bourne #4 isn't set in stone, and right after the release of The Bourne Ultimatum Damon had been worried about what direction they'd take a story if they did a fourth film. "If there was to be another one, then it would have to be a complete reconfiguration, you know, where do you go from there? For me I kind of feel like the story that we set out to tell has now been told," explained Damon at the LA press conference for The Bourne Ultimatum back in July 2007. "I love the character and if Paul Greengrass calls me in 10 years and says, 'Now we can do it because it's been 10 years and I have a way to bring him back,' then there's a world in which I can go, 'Yeah, absolutely.' We could get the band back together if there was a great idea behind it. But in terms of now and this story, that part - the story's been told."However, it appears that barring scheduling conflicts - and with the right script and director - Damon could be back on board. While Damon's still iffy, director Paul Greengrass is absolutely off the project. In a statement issued by Universal Pictures, Greengrass said, "You won't find a more devoted supporter of the Bourne franchise than me. I will always be grateful to have been the caretaker to Jason Bourne over the course of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. I'm very proud of those films and feel they express everything I most passionately believe about the possibility of making quality movies in the mainstream. My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge. There's been no disagreement with Universal Pictures."
"The opportunity to work with the Bourne family again is a difficult thing to pass up, but we have discussed this together and they have been incredibly understanding and supportive," stated Greengrass. "I've been lucky enough to have made four films for Universal, and our relationship continues. Jason Bourne existed before me and will continue, and I hope to remain involved in some capacity as the series moves on."
Greengrass is currently involved with Green Zone for Universal, an action drama starring Matt Damon set to hit theaters next March.
