Summit Entertainment's on a roll. New Moon is raking in the big bucks and now Summit's The Hurt Locker has picked up awards for Best Feature and Best Ensemble Performance at the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards. This early recognition can only help The Hurt Locker's chances at major award consideration. Early Oscar buzz has the film in contention for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay nominations.

The Gotham Awards are presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), which is the oldest and largest organization of independent filmmakers (according to their press release). The Gotham Awards are handed out annually in six categories: Best Feature, Best Documentary, Breakthrough Director, Breakthrough Actor, Best Ensemble Performance, and Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near YouŽ (really love that category).

The IFP also recognized Natalie Portman, Stanley Tucci, filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow, and producer/executives Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner with special career honors.
