Overture Films and Hammer Films announced the start of production on Let Me In, the English-language remake of the Swedish vampire tale Let the Right One In (which was adapted from John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel Lat den Ratte Komma In). Cloverfield director Matt Reeves is helming the film which will, according to Overture Films, pay respect to the original Swedish version while updating the story and placing the action in America.

Let Me In is filming in Albuquerque as well as other locations in New Mexico.

Viggo Mortensen's young co-star in The Road, Kodi Smit-McPhee, is starring as Owen, a 12 year old boy who makes friends with a newcomer to his neighborhood (played by Chloe Moretz) - a strange young girl who has a deep, dark secret. Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) plays the girl's guardian. The cast also includes Cara Buono as Owen's mother and Elias Koteas as a police officer.

In a press release announcing the start of filming, President and CEO of Hammer Films Simon Oakes said, "This project is very personal to Matt as it is to the many passionate fans of the original story. The brilliance of that story deserves to be seen by audiences on a wide scale and we are excited that the pieces are in place to make that a reality."

Overture Films is planning a 2010 U.S. release.
