It's not the most astounding bit of news to come out of Hollywood in recent memory, but it is kind of fun in a non-earth-shattering way. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment found a unique and record-breaking way of promoting the release of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs on DVD/Blu-ray. In support of today's release of Ice Age 3 on DVD, a towering 48 foot 8 inch ice sculpture in the shape of the film's lovable nut-crazed squirrel-creature, Scrat, was constructed at an outdoor skating rink in Santa Monica. The gigantic four story-high Scrat set a new record for ice sculptures according to the Guinness World Records, besting the record of 40.28 feet set by Michel Amman in Ski Dubai on April 20, 2006.The ice Scrat consists of 133,000 pounds of ice collected from four states and took a team of 14 sculptors from Ice Bulb four days to finish. The event was even captured in time lapse footage you can out on YouTube. I told you it wasn't earth-shattering news.
