Ricky Gervais to Host Golden Globes
Monday October 26, 2009
The producers of the Golden Globes are looking to liven up the show and have tapped Ricky Gervais to play host for the 2010 awards ceremony. Hiring Gervais is a bold move by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association who've gone without a host for the annual kudos-fest since 1995.Ratings have been declining for the Golden Globes, with last year's broadcast earning the worst ratings since '95 (not counting the press conference held in place of the show during the writers strike). Having a host to help move the show along - and stop long-winded winners from rambling on forever - could be a step in the right direction.
In a statement issued by the HFPA Gervais was quoted as saying, "Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host. I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don't turn down."
The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live on Sunday, January 17, 2010 from The Beverly Hilton in Hollywood. Nominees will be announced bright and early on December 15th.
