Sam Trammell was up for a Breakthrough Performance award for his role as Sam Merlotte, the shapeshifting bar owner in HBO's super sexy series True Blood, at Spike TV's SCREAM 2009. Trammell didn't walk away with that award - he lost out to Twilight's Taylor Lautner (it's never a good idea to go against a Twilight star when online votes gauge the winner) - but the True Blood cast did wind up with three acting honors as well as the best TV show trophy. Alexander Skarsgard was voted Best Villain (really? villain? I don't see Eric Northman as a villain) and real-life couple Stephen Moyer and Oscar-winner Anna Paquin picked up Best Actor and Actress in a Horror TV Show wins. Moyer took to the stage to pick up his award while leaning on a cane, the result of tearing his meniscus while playing with his kids.Spike TV's annual event honors the best in sci-fi, fantasy, horror and comic genres on TV and the big screen, and Trammell, who currently has a batch of films on his plate (including the romantic comedy Shrinking Charlotte with Brittany Murphy), chatted up True Blood and playing Sam before taking part in the SCREAM 2009 show:

Alexander/Eric was in the same category as James from Twilight.
I also don’t view Eric as a villain and hope that AB veers away from that b/c it’s certainly not how Ms. Harris wrote Eric.
Sam Trammel is so cute. Nice interview.
Eric is a villain in Alan Ball’s True Blood. It doesn’t matter what Ms. Harris wrote or didn’t write. He is a villain on the show.
So glad Stephen Moyer won. He’s the hottest vampire on the show by far.
Barb,
We have to agree to disagree on our True Blood opinions. I don’t view Eric as a villain in Harris’ books or in Ball’s interpretation. Evil, yes. Out to undo Bill and Sookie’s relationship, most definitely. But I just do see how that makes him a villain.
And we definitely have different points of view as to who’s the hottest vampire on the show. I’m Team Eric all the way.
