The Swedish vampire movie Let the Right One In was my favorite foreign film of 2008. It was gorgeously shot, the characters were well-conceived, and the acting was terrific. Like your movies with real bite? You'll like Let the Right One In. Now Hammer Films and Overture Films are putting an American spin on the tale, remaking the Swedish film (based on the bestselling book by John Ajvide Lindqvistas) as Let Me In.Kodi Smit-McPhee (of the upcoming The Road), Chloe Moretz (from 500 Days of Summer) and Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) have been signed up to star in this new take on the vampire tale. Production is set to begin in November in New Mexico on Let Me In, with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves at the helm. Reeves also adapted the screenplay.
Smit-McPhee will play Owen, Moretz is Abby, and Jenkins takes on the main adult character ('Hakan' in Let the Right One In). Let the Right One In told the story of Owen, a lonely schoolboy who makes friends with the new girl in his neighborhood, Abby. But it turns out Abby's not like every other kid...
Overture and Hammer Films are aiming for a 2010 release. In a joint press release announcing the casting, writer/director Reeves said, "Kodi, Chloe, and Richard are my absolute dream cast. I couldn't be more excited to be working with them."
