Zombieland hasn't yet hit theaters, but the buzz on the 'black' carpet at the film's premiere in front of historic Grauman's Chinese Theater was all about the possibility of a Zombieland sequel. Director Ruben Fleischer said he's ready to have another go at zombies and the writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, also wouldn't mind revisiting the zombie world again. So when Columbia Pictures President Matt Tolmach twice stopped by during my interviews to say hello to his Zombieland friends, I asked him point blank about the possibility of a sequel. His answer: "Absolutely, emphatically, starting right now. Yes. I'm not shy. We'll make the deal tonight."Also in the works for writers Wernick and Reese are Earth vs Moon, a big-budget sci-fi movie, and Venom, a project set up at Columbia Pictures and based on the Marvel comic book character who's Spider-Man's nemesis. Although they aren't allowed to disclose any specifics on Venom, Wernick told me they've written a couple of drafts of the script. "What a great character," said Wernick at the Zombieland premiere. "We've just had such a joy writing him."
As for the direction the storyline's going to take, Wernick said, "We can take him anywhere our imagination will lead us and Marvel and Sony will let us go." And how far is that? "They gave us a lot of free rein to play in that world," revealed Wernick."
