And why not a Barbie movie? G.I. Joe performed well in theaters, and Barbie's a more logical choice toy-wise to be made the subject of a feature film than the classic Asteroids video game, the ViewMaster toy, or Stretch Armstrong - all of which are currently in the works to be made into movies.
Barbie can do just about anything, has lived practically everywhere, and has been dating her boyfriend, Ken, for the past 48 years. So who should star in a Barbie movie and where will the story go? Those are questions not yet answered by Universal Studios, but Mattel senior VP Richard Dickson and VP of Entertainment for Barbie Rob Hudnut will be right there helping to guide the direction of the family-friendly film.
THR reports Universal's currently looking for a screenwriter to handle Barbie's transition from plastic toy to feature film star.
