Bruce Campbell provides the voice of Mayor Shelbourne, a short little man with a Napoleon complex and a huge pompadour, in Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation's family film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. At that film's premiere, Campbell said he did the kid-friendly movie to change things up. But one thing that's not changing is his attachment to the Spider-Man franchise. Campbell confirmed he's definitely in the next Spider-Man movie. After all, what would a Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man be without Bruce Campbell?"They can't make it without me," said Campbell in our exclusive interview at the Meatballs premiere. "I just had lunch with [Sam Raimi] the other day and we agreed that there was going to be no Spider-Man 4 without a pivotal role for this guy."
But Campbell's not saying who he'll be playing or how big the role will be. Asked if Raimi has even told him about the character, Campbell replied, "He never does. That studio stuff, it's all secret. They can't even… They give you the script, they give you maybe the pages that you have. I can't even learn my own dialogue – that's how secret it is. Like this movie was so secret they wouldn't even give me the script. I'm like, 'Well, how am I supposed to act?' They go, 'That's your problem.'"
As for that other project of Campbell's that's got a lot of fans aching for news, what's happening with The Evil Dead? "We're probably going to do a remake,' said Campbell, adding that he's fine with that. "I am because we're going to just try and make it scary, you know? We want to make it a scary movie with technology that we can now finally use where you don't see garden hoses spewing fake blood."
I don't know...the spurting blood was the fun part of Evil Dead... "Well, this will still be fun, too. It will," said Campbell. But will it be campy? "We don't know," answered Campbell. "It depends on how we do it. We're still trying to decide what we're going to do, what the approach is."
