If you have to remake a classic, then you could do much worse than putting it in the hands of the Coen Brothers. Joel and Ethan Coen are currently busy promoting A Serious Man (it'll be premiering at the Toronto Film Festival), but soon they'll get to work on a new take on the Charles Portis novel True Grit. And Variety's reporting - and I totally understand and can get behind this bit of casting - Jeff Bridges is likely reuniting with his The Big Lebowski directors to star in this new True Grit.First published in 1968, Portis' True Grit follows Mattie Ross, a 14 year old girl who's orphaned after a no-good outlaw kills her father and steals his money and horse. Mattie and US Marshal Rooster Cogburn join forces to track down the man who murdered her father. If Bridges signs on he'll be playing Rooster Cogburn, a role first brought to life on the big screen by John Wayne back in 1969. Wayne won his first and only Oscar for his performance.
Paramount Pictures is aiming for a 2011 release of the Coens' True Grit.

Jeff Bridges?? Come on now. That role belongs to Sam Elliott.
