Alexander Skarsgard and Kate Bosworth Join Straw Dogs

He didn't land the role of Thor, but Alexander Skarsgard ('Eric' in True Blood) did land a part in the new Straw Dogs from writer/producer/director Rod Lurie. Variety reports Skarsgard and Kate Bosworth have joined James Marsden in the pic set to begin filming next month.

This remake/re-imagining of the 1971 Sam Peckinpah film finds Marsden playing a Hollywood screenwriter who leaves LA to live in his wife's hometown in the South. Bosworth plays the wife and Skarsgard is set to play her ex-boyfriend.

Lurie's most recent film, Nothing But the Truth (now available on DVD), was the victim of incredibly bad timing. Support Lurie should have received for the film went out the door when Yari Film Group declared bankruptcy. The film's star, Kate Beckinsale, earned rave reviews for her portrayal of a reporter who goes to jail rather than reveal her source. Beckinsale's performance in Lurie's film was one of the best of her career and earned her a Best Actress nomination from the Broadcast Film Critics Association (which I'm proud to be a member of).
