Michael Sheen Joins New Moon Cast

Michael Sheen is changing sides in the battle between mythological creatures. Sheen, who played a werewolf in the Underworld film franchise, is leaving the fur behind and sinking his teeth into the role of Aro, an extremely powerful vampire, in New Moon. Aro is a member of the Volturi, Italian vampires charged with keeping the peace amongst their kind. And as a fan of the Twilight series, I can see Sheen (Frost/Nixon, The Queen) in the part. It makes sense.

According to an interview with The Daily Mail, director Chris Weitz aggressively pursued Sheen for the role. "Michael's role is so important because he's the head of all vampires," Weitz told The Mall. "Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat."
