Kristen Stewart Talks New Moon and Her Relationship with Twilight Fans

Kristen Stewart had some Twilight fans worked up into a tizzy recently after an interview she gave to Nylon seemed to cast her experiences dealing with Twilight fans in a negative light. In LA for the press day of The Cake Eaters, an indie film she stars in that has nothing to do with falling in love with a handsome teenager vampire who doesn't suck human blood, Stewart was asked if she now feels as though she's playing with fire whenever she says anything about fans of the Twilight series. "No, because I love the Twilight fans," replied Stewart. "I have literally never said anything remotely negative about them. You have to stay away from certain key words that can be twisted into a negative connotation, like the word 'psychotic' apparently is really bad. I don't understand why. I mean, I feel like it's a really humble position to take that it's not normal to find yourself in a situation where there are 5,000 screaming girls and you're literally like fodder. I feel like that's not normal and it's not something I should just say, "Oh yeah, it's really cool. I love 'em." I feel like everything that I said in that Nylon interview, if you actually read the whole thing, was very honest and genuine and talking about something that I am so immersed in and have absolutely no control over and I'm just trying to stay honest and true to something that I care about."

Stewart confirmed she'll be heading off to the set of New Moon, the second film of the 4-part Twilight series, in just a few weeks. "March 23rd I think is the first official day of shooting," said Stewart.

She's looking forward to getting back to work as Bella Swan and excited about the fact New Moon takes the Bella and Edward love story in a different direction than Twilight. "I mean, it's interesting. It's a completely different story. It's like it entirely undermines the first. Edward is gone and, for me, that was the whole story. It's hard for me to get past like… I don't know how Bella is going to deal with that. She matures a lot. It's a much more painful story than the first one. It's actually quite devastating. It's a smaller scale as well. She's very solitary for quite a while so that will be interesting. I’m excited about that," confessed Stewart.

In other New Moon news, Summit Entertainment has confirmed Dakota Fanning has been cast as Jane. On the red carpet at the premiere of Push, Fanning told me she's thrilled about the opportunity to play Jane and, despite her angelic looks, she's positive she can play evil. Erik Feig, Summit's President of Production, stated in a press release, "Dakota Fanning is one of the most talented actresses of her generation and we are thrilled that she will be a part of the Twilight saga."
