Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal are going to headline a brand new Damn Yankees! movie according to Variety. A remake of Damn Yankees! has been in the works for a while, with the project seemingly headed toward production back in 2003. At that time it was Harvey Weinstein at Miramax who was anxious to redo the musical comedy. Production stalled, rights were lost, and New Line Cinema is now the production company determined to breathe life into a new Damn Yankees!.Damn Yankees! is the story of Joe Boyd, a middle-aged, die-hard Washington Senators fan who makes a deal with the devil in order to help his Senators win a pennant. For the price of Joe's soul, the Devil will help out the Senators - and let Joe live out one of his fantasies - by transforming him into a baseball star. Carrey will play the role of the Devil with Gyllenhaal taking on the part of the long ball-hitting baseball player the Devil makes out of Joe.
There's no word yet on when production will begin or who will direct.
