Dakota Fanning Confirms New Moon Talks

14 year old Dakota Fanning's played a wide variety of characters over the course of her decade-long career, but never a vampire. That could change if she joins the cast of New Moon, the second film of the Twilight series. New Moon finds Bella (Kristen Stewart) turning to Jacob (Taylor Lautner) when Edward (Robert Pattinson) and the Cullens take off after an incident at her birthday party. Bella spends the book heartbroken over the loss of her vampire boyfriend even while her friendship with Jacob grows stronger. Things get really wild when Jacob reveals his big secret and even wilder when Bella has to meet the most powerful vampires in the Twilight world - the Volturi. And if all parties wind up in agreement, one of the scariest vampires of the Volturi group could be played by the angelic-looking Dakota Fanning.

At the LA press day for her latest film, Push, Fanning was asked if New Moon is in her future. " Possibly, yeah. I hope it works out. It would be really, really cool to be a part of that," said Fanning, confirming she in talks to play Jane. "She's a vampire - she's a vampire in the film. And yeah, it would be really cool to be a part of that. I'm a big fan."

Jane's an integral part of the New Moon plot, but still just a supporting role. Unless director Chris Weisz and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg vastly expand the role, it's likely Jane won't be onscreen longer than 15-20 minutes. However, even with limited screen time, Jane's an important player in the Twilight franchise. And casting Fanning in the role seems to be a much, much more acceptable choice to fans who've voiced their displeasure over another actress rumored to have been in the running - Vanessa Hudgens.

Filming on New Moon is expected to begin in March with Summit Entertainment aiming for a November 20th release.
