Director Chris Weitz has put an end to the debate raging over the return of Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in the second film of the Twilight series, New Moon. In our exclusive interview days before Twilight hit theaters, Lautner was pumped up about the prospect of working on New Moon which will focus more on his character than on Edward, the dreamy vampire played by Robert Pattinson. But Jacob Black experiences a tremendous growth spurt over the course of New Moon and there was lots of speculation as to how Lautner could bulk up enough to fit the part as described by author Stephenie Meyer. But Weitz and Summit Entertainment have settled the matter - apparently once and for all - confirming Lautner's return in an email blast sent out by the studio:"Dear Twilight Fans,
I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon, and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series.
But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part.
I think that fans of Twilight, the book and the movie, will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

Good job in keeping Taylor! He’s got the discipline needed for the role, he’s learned this discipline in becoming a martial artist, and he really wants it! I COULD NOT PICTURE THIS MOVIE WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL JACOB.. ALL THE MOVIES WOULD NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT ALL THE SAME CHARACTERS, AFTER SEEING THE MOVIE AND THEN READING THE BOOKS, IT MADE MY DESIRE TO READ MORE KNOWING WHO THE CHARACTERS ARE AND MADE ME LOVE THE BOOKS EVEN MORE..
I HOPE THAT ALL THE BOOKS BECOME A MOVIE.. IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE THE WHOLE LOVE STORY ON SCREEN ..
I’m a fan of stephanie meyer’s book, I read the books and in my opinion, taylor is fit for the character of jacob. His handsome and he has charm that you can say that fit for a werewolf! I can’t wait to watch the movie new moon and still waiting for the 2 other movies( eclipse and breaking dawn) guess i will see more of taylor lautner coz jacob has a really big part in this story. i think the best actor to play jacop in the new moon would be Steven Strait…he is just right ..the smile,,the pain on his face,,,that’s exactly what bella is talking about in the story..even the angry face will suit him..so i think he is the best
